In a recent report, Sky Sports mentioned that West Ham United have made an improved offer for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire this summer. It has been stated that the Hammers have launched an improved bid to recruit the English centre-half in this ongoing transfer window.
Maguire’s Lack Of Playing Time At Man United
Maguire had to settle for limited playing time at Old Trafford in the previous campaign as he struggled to make himself a regular starter in Erik ten Hag’s first XI. The England international participated in 31 matches for the Red Devils last season, receiving nine yellow cards in the process across all competitions.
The Sheffield-born sensation made a lot of his appearances as a substitute but performed well to average 0.5 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per game in Premier League football. He was even tidy when distributing possession from inside his half as he made 85.4% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
Maguire is under contract at the Mancunian club until the summer of 2025. Thus, it would be difficult for Man United to sign him in this off-season.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Sign Maguire This Summer?
Maguire is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the offensive but can sometimes lack the pace to make recovering runs at the back.
Standing at 1.94m, the English talent can use his strength to win a few important aerial duels for his team. He is even an accurate passer of the ball but needs to find a way to be more consistent in the Premier League.
Maguire has got a wealth of experience in English football under his belt and would take no time to settle into life at the London Stadium if West Ham manage to land him this summer.
Maguire will inject more bite and steel into David Moyes‘ defence and help the Hammers compete across all fronts over the next few years. Thus, it makes a lot of sense for Moyes to go all out to sign the English defensive ace soon.
