In a recent report, The Daily Express mentioned that West Ham United have identified Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill as a target for this summer transfer window. It is believed that the Hammers are eager to secure the services of the English midfield ace this month.
Brownhill’s Impressive Run Of Form At Turf Moor
The 27-year-old had an excellent campaign with Burnley in the EFL Championship as he helped them earn promotion back to the Premier League. Brownhill registered seven goals and ten assists in 48 matches for his current club last season across various competitions.
The English talent was a positive influence in both halves based on his average of 2.2 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 1.4 shots and 1.8 key passes per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 82.7% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Turf Moor will expire at the end of this campaign. Hence, the Hammers have a good chance of securing his services on the cheap before the end of this month.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Move In For Brownhill This Summer?
Brownhill is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually put his foot through the ball when required and has also got the vision to create some decent chances for his teammates in the final third.
The English midfield ace can shoot the ball purely from long range and can contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals going forward.
However, Brownhill is yet to prove his worth in Premier League football. Still, it makes sense for West Ham to move in for him this month as he would bring more quality and depth to David Moyes‘ match-day squad.
At 27, Brownhill is playing in his prime and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at the East London club if Moyes can find a way to get a deal over the line for him this summer.
