In a recent report, The Athletic offered an update on the future of Barcelona full-back Sergino Dest. It has been stated that the Catalan club are looking to sell the United States international for just €10m this summer.
Dest’s Recent Loan Spell At San Siro
Dest had a solid loan spell at AC Milan last season when he managed to put in a couple of impressive displays for them on the right flank. The 22-year-old was involved in 14 matches for the Milan outfit in the previous campaign but failed to score or assist a goal across all fronts.
The Almere-born talent was a decent performer out on the flanks based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.5 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in Serie A. He even distributed the ball accurately from inside his half as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 84.1% in the top tier of Italian football (stats via whoscored).
The American sensation is under contract at his parent club Barcelona until the summer of 2025. Thus, Xavi is under no immediate need to cash in on him other than just to trim his squad in this off-season.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Cash In On Dest?
Dest can get stuck in with a few crunching tackles to make life tough for the opposition inside his half. He is a decent dribbler with the ball out on the flanks and can create a few inviting chances for others around him in the opponent’s half. Dest is primarily a right-back but can also play as a left-back if told to do so.
However, the United States international has been far from consistent during his time at the Nou Camp. Thus, it makes sense for Barcelona boss Xavi to cut him loose this summer so that he can use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of his match-day squad.
At 22, Dest is in dire need of regular first-team starts which Xavi simply cannot offer him at the moment. Hence, it is only fair to the player if Barcelona allow him to leave before the end of this transfer window as he is currently surplus to requirements at the Catalan club.
