In a recent report, The Daily Mail stated that Tottenham Hotspur are still eager to land Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. It has been stated that Spurs are eyeing a move to secure the services of the English talent during this summer transfer period.
Gallagher’s Difficult Campaign At Stamford Bridge
Gallagher had a tough campaign at Chelsea as he struggled to be a consistent performer for them in the middle of the park. The 23-year-old found the back of the net three times and secured one assist in 45 matches for the Blues last season in various competitions.
The English sensation saw most of his playing time off the bench which could be why he averaged 0.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He was even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield after completing 84.5% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Gallagher’s current contract at the West London club is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Therefore, Spurs will have to make a good offer if they want to recruit him in this off-season.
Is Gallagher The Right Fit For Tottenham Hotspur?
Gallagher can strike the ball with venom and accuracy from long range. He has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. The English talent also works hard for his team on the defensive third of the field. He can be a positive influence in both halves but needs to find a way to be more consistent in the middle of the park.
We can expect Gallagher to inject more quality into Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s midfield. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the North London club next season.
At 23, Gallagher has still got a bright future ahead of him and could help Spurs challenge for a top-four spot in the 2023-24 Premier League season. Thus, the English talent would be a good fit for Tottenham‘s needs at the moment. All in all, Postecoglu should think about going all out to bring him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the end of this summer transfer window.
