In a recent interview with NUFC Matters, journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that Southampton full-back Tino Livramento is keen on a move to Newcastle United. Jacobs said,
“I think Livramento is still a very realistic possibility, he has had a torrid time with injuries that could lead him to wanting to do one more season at Southampton, but the player is keen on that move (to Newcastle United), it’s just about agreeing a fee with Southampton.
“Livramento is keen on that move, Chelsea were considering buying him back as well because they have that option, but Livramento was not particularly enthused by that, because the logic was he would be bought by Chelsea and loaned back to Southampton.”
Livramento’s Injury-Ravaged Season In English Football
Livramento endured a tough season at Southampton recently as he missed a lot of games due to injury. He made just two appearances for the Saints in the previous campaign in the Premier League.
The 20-year-old can be a solid presence at right-back when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. However, after Southampton’s relegation from top-flight football, he has every reason to want a move to a top club like Newcastle United this summer.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Go For Livramento?
Livramento is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some crucial interceptions at the back. He usually clears his lines when required and can make a few driving runs with the ball on the right flank. Livramento can also create some decent chances for others around him in the opposition half.
The London-born sensation is primarily a right-back but can also function as a right-sided wide player if told to do so. However, his recent injury record makes him a risky option for the Magpies to consider during this summer transfer period.
At 20, Livramento has got a bright future ahead and would no doubt bring some healthy competition for Kieran Trippier at St. James’ Park if Eddie Howe can devise a way to bring him on board before the start of the new campaign. With all things considered, Howe should consider going in for Livramento as he would be an excellent signing for Newcastle in the long run.
