In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Real Madrid are keen on recruiting FC Porto keeper Diogo Costa this summer. It has been claimed that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the Portuguese custodian in this ongoing transfer period.
Costa’s Impressive Run Of Form In Portuguese Football
Costa had a solid campaign at Porto recently as he managed to put in a run of impressive displays for them in the Portuguese top flight. The 23-year-old conceded 30 goals and secured 20 clean sheets in 41 matches for his current employers last season in all competitions.
The Portuguese keeper did well to average 0.8 clearances and 7.3 long balls per game in Liga Portugal. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the back after completing 76.7% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Portuguese football (stats via whoscored).
Costa is under contract at Porto until the summer of 2027. Hence, Real Madrid will have to launch a big offer if they want to recruit him this month.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Snap Costa Up This Month?
Costa can be a solid pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing well on the pitch. He is a good handler of the ball as well and has got decent reflexes that help him pull off a few world-class saves at the back.
The Portuguese talent can even distribute the ball relatively well from inside his half. Hence, he would be a good fit for Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s needs at the moment.
Costa would serve as an upgrade over Andriy Lunin at the Madrid club. He is good enough to rival Thibaut Courtois for a regular starting spot at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 23, Costa has got a promising future ahead of him and could be a great signing for Los Blancos in the long run. However, only time will tell whether the Portuguese custodian can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of signing someone with Costa’s quality, so Ancelotti should focus on snapping him up before the end of this summer transfer window.
