In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Chelsea full-back Reece James next year. It is understood that Los Blancos are hoping to acquire the services of the English defender in 2024.
James’ Impressive Form In Premier League Football Last Season
James put in a series of impressive displays on the right side of Chelsea’s defence in the previous campaign but failed to help the West London club find consistency in the Premier League. The 23-year-old registered two goals and two goals in 24 matches for the Blues last season on all fronts.
The London-born talent was a positive influence at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.9 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 1.0 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been excellent with his ball distribution after making 90.7% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the West London club will run out in the summer of 2028. Hence, it won’t be easy for Real Madrid to sign him on the cheap next year.
Is James The Right Fit For Real Madrid?
James is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot. James is primarily a right-back but can also function as a centre-back or as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so by his manager.
The English full-back has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. He can strike the ball purely and with power from long range.
Hence, we can expect James to add a lot of quality to Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. He might even help Los Blancos challenge for some major honours over the next few years.
At 23, James will only get better in the coming seasons which makes him a great fit for Real Madrid in the long run. Thus, it is only logical for the Madrid giants to launch a big move to sign the Chelsea defender next summer.
