According to a report from Mirror, Manchester United have formally presented a proposition to Chelsea regarding a potential loan arrangement for Marc Cucurella. In response, the West London-based club have engaged in discussions with their Premier League counterparts, with negotiations currently in progress. Allegedly, Chelsea are seeking a loan fee amounting to £7 million, while Man United’s initial offer presently hovers just above £2 million.
Cucurella’s Unimpressive Debut Season For Chelsea
Marc Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2022 for a club-record fee of £56 million. The Spanish left-back was expected to be a key player for the Blues, but his debut season has been a mixed bag.
Cucurella started the season well, making a number of impressive performances. He was particularly good in the early weeks of the campaign but his form dipped in the middle of the campaign and although he regained confidence in the second half, the Spanish left-back could not solidify his position in the starting lineup.
He made a total of 33 appearances across all competitions and contributed for two goals. However, the full-back was solid in the defence as he averaged 2.7 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 1.5 clearances with a pass success rate of 86.4% in the English top flight. (Stats via whoscored)
Is He A Decent Fit For Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag?
Cucurella is a left-back who is known for his attacking prowess. He is good at dribbling and passing, and he is also good at crossing the ball into the box. He would fit well into Erik ten Hag’s attacking style of play, which relies on fullbacks to provide width and create chances.
Cucurella is also a good defender. He is strong in the tackle and he is good at reading the game. He would help to improve United’s defence, which has been a weakness in recent years.
The 25-year-old is still young and he has room to improve under the guidance of ten Hag. He has the potential to be a top left-back, and he could be a good addition to Manchester United’s squad this season.
