In a recent report, Sport stated that Manchester City winger Bernardo Silva is eager to seal a move to Barcelona this summer. It has been claimed that the Portugal international wants to join the Catalan club during this summer transfer period.
Silva’s Good Run Of Form At Man City Last Season
Silva enjoyed another decent season at the Etihad Stadium recently after he produced a series of impressive displays for Man City in the final third. The 28-year-old banged in seven goals and earned eight assists in 55 matches for the Mancunian side in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The Lisboa-born talent deserves a ton of credit for averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.7 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was even tidy when interchanging possession with his teammates after making 89.1% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Silva’s current contract at Man City will run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, it will be difficult for Barca to sign him for a reduced fee in this off-season.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Launch A Move For Silva?
Silva is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few promising runs with the ball out on the flanks. He usually works hard for his team off the ball and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the attacking end of the field.
Silva mainly operated as an attacking midfielder for Man City last season but can also function as a right-winger or as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so.
The Portuguese sensation can even strike the ball with power and precision from long range. He can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top.
Silva will no doubt inject more quality into Barcelona head coach Xavi’s first XI. He might even help the Catalan giants sustain another title charge in La Liga next season.
At 28, Silva has entered his prime and won’t take any time to settle into life at the Nou Camp. Thus, it makes sense for Xavi to launch a move for the Portuguese wide player before the end of this transfer window.
