Manchester City will face off against Burnley at Turf Moor in the Premier League season opener this Friday night. Pep Guardiola’s men suffered a loss on penalties in the Community Shield final against Arsenal recently, so they will be eager to kick off their league campaign with a win on the road.
Guardiola is expected to opt for a 3-2-2-3 formation and could be inclined to name a strong first XI for this game. Nathan Ake is a slight concern ahead of this game as he is still recovering from an injury. Otherwise, Man City should have a fully fit squad to choose from this weekend.
3-2-2-3 Manchester City Predicted Lineup To Face Burnley
Defence
Ederson will function in between the sticks for Man City after being rested in the Community Shield final earlier this month. Guardiola could name a back three of Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias and Kyle Walker as they try to keep the opposition at bay during the 90 minutes.
Aymeric Laporte will offer cover for the defensive positions on the bench.
Midfield
Rodri and John Stones will anchor the midfield for Man City as they try to establish their dominance over the opposition at the centre of the park.
Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez will operate just ahead of them as part of Guardiola’s attack. Both of them would be given the responsibility to engineer a few decent chances in the final third.
Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis and Kalvin Phillips will be available for selection on the bench as they wait for their chance to make an impact in the final quarter of the game if needed.
Attack
Jack Grealish will function as a left-sided wide player while Phil Foden hopes to give a good account of himself from the right flank.
Erling Haaland will lead the line for Man City in the Burnley half. The Norwegian talent would be eager to find the back of the net after shooting blanks against Arsenal recently.
Kevin de Bruyne will be named on the bench and might come on to influence the game in the latter stages if Man City are in need of a goal by then.
