In a recent report, The Evening Standard revealed that Everton have joined the race for Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer. It has been stated that the Toffees will face competition in the form of Nottingham Forest and Fulham in the race to land the English wide player this month.
Hudson-Odoi’s Uneventful Loan Spell In Bundesliga Last Season
Hudson-Odoi experienced a lackluster loan spell at Bayer 04 Leverkusen last season when he struggled to be productive for them in the final third. The English speedster made 21 appearances for the German outfit in the previous campaign, finding the back of the net once and earning one assist in multiple competitions.
The 22-year-old caught the eye at times by averaging 0.9 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga football. He was even accurate when distributing possession in the opposition half after completing 86.9% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Chelsea will run out at the end of next season. Hence, Everton could potentially land him on a cut-price deal this summer.
What Will Hudson-Odoi Bring To Everton?
Hudson-Odoi is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball out on the flanks. He has got the pace to cause a lot of headaches for his marker in the final third. However, the English wing wizard has to work on improving his decision-making in front of the opponent’s goal.
Hudson-Odoi is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function as a right-winger or play in the number ten position if told to do so.
Hudson-Odoi will undeniably bring more pace and firepower to Everton head coach Sean Dyche‘s attack. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the Merseyside club this season. Plus, he would also offer some serious competition for Alex Iwobi and Dwight McNeil at Goodison Park over the next few years.
At 22, Hudson-Odoi still has a lot of room to grow as a footballer. Hence, it is only logical for the Toffees to try everything in their power to bring him on board before the end of this summer transfer window.
