In a recent print edition (27 August, Page 77), The Sunday Mirror claimed that Everton are keen on recruiting West Ham United forward Danny Ings this summer. It is believed that the Toffees are eyeing a move to bring the English striker to Merseyside before the end of this transfer window.
Ings’ Decent Role At West Ham Last Season
Ings served as an important member of West Ham’s squad last season when he put in a few impressive displays for them in the final third. The English forward scored 10 times and earned four assists in 43 matches for the Hammers in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The 31-year-old led the line well by averaging 1.5 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in the 2022-23 Premier League season. However, he needs to improve his ball distribution as he completed just 72.2% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the London Stadium will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, it won’t be easy for Everton to land him this summer.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Snap Ings Up This Summer?
Ings can find a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in at goal. He can be a streaky goal-scorer in the final third and can also set up some decent chances for his teammates in the opposition half. The English talent is quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty box but needs to work on improving his link-up play up top if he wants to make the most out of the remainder of his playing career.
Ings will inject more firepower into Everton boss Sean Dyche’s attacking department. He has what it takes to rival Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay for a regular starting spot at the Merseyside club in the coming seasons.
At 31, Ings has still got a few good years left in him to play at his best. Hence, it makes sense for the Toffees to snap him up on a short-term deal before the end of this summer transfer window. Ings has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and could help the Toffees stay out of relegation trouble in the Premier League this season.
