In a recent report, The Daily Mail mentioned that Everton are hoping to recruit West Ham United striker Maxwel Cornet. It has been stated that Toffees are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the Ivory Coast wide player this summer.
Cornet’s Lack Of Game Time At The London Stadium
Cornet played a sporadic role for the Hammers last season when he put in a few eye-catching displays for them in the final third. The 26-year-old made 22 appearances for West Ham in the previous campaign, picking up five assists across multiple competitions.
The Ivory Coast sensation saw most of his game time come off the bench which explains why he only averaged 0.6 shots, 0.1 key passes and 0.1 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after completing 79.5% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the East London club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, it won’t be easy for Everton to sign him for a discounted fee this month.
What Will Cornet Bring To Everton?
Cornet can use his pace to make a few dangerous runs with the ball out on the flanks. He is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. The Ivory Coast talent can shoot the ball with venom from long range but needs to add a few goals to his game if he wants to be a regular starter in top-flight football. He is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function as a centre-forward if told to do so by his manager.
At the moment, Cornet is in dire need of more playing time. Hence, Everton could be an ideal destination for him. Sean Dyche can definitely use a player of his skillset to bolster his attack. At 26, the Ivory Coast attacker is about to enter his prime soon which makes him a decent option for Everton to consider this summer.
Cornet will bring more pace and creativity to the Merseyside club‘s frontline. He might even help the Toffees steer clear of the relegation zone this season. Thus, Dyche should focus on getting a deal done for him before the end of this transfer window.
