In a recent stream on Twitch, journalist Gerard Romero stated that Barcelona could make a late move for Real Valladolid full-back Ivan Fresneda. It is believed that the Catalan club are eager to secure the services of the Spanish youngster before the end of this summer transfer window.
Fresneda’s Impressive Rise At Real Valladolid
Fresneda managed to catch the eye with his performances on the right side of Valladolid’s defence in the previous campaign. The talented starlet featured in 24 matches for the Spanish outfit last season but failed to find the back of the net for them across all competitions.
The 18-year-old was a decent performer at both ends of the field as he averaged 2.2 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 2.0 clearances, 0.8 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the right flank after making 80.7% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top flight (stats via whoscored).
Fresneda is under contract at the Spanish club until the summer of 2025. Hence, Barca will have to launch a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting him this month.
Is Fresneda A Good Fit For Barcelona Head Coach Xavi?
Fresneda is a good tackler of the ball and can make some timely interceptions for his team on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can even orchestrate some decent chances for his teammates from the right wing.
The Madrid-born talent is a good dribbler with the ball as well. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level. Thus, it won’t be easy for him to maintain his good form at a top club like Barcelona.
Still, there is no denying that Fresneda has the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday. He is good enough to fight for a regular spot in Barca boss Xavi’s first XI this season. Furthermore, the Spanish prospect could help the Catalan club compete across all competitions. Thus, Xavi should focus all his attention on bringing the Spanish youngster on board before the transfer window slams shut soon.
