In a recent report, Sport stated that Barcelona are optimistic about their chances to land Atletico Madrid ace Joao Felix this summer. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are hoping to land the Portuguese forward this month with the Madrid club open to letting him leave on loan with a purchase option.
Felix’s Up And Down Loan Spell At Chelsea Last Season
Felix had a loan spell of mixed emotions at Stamford Bridge as he put in a few productive displays for the Blues but struggled to be consistent for them in the Premier League. The 23-year-old scored four goals in 20 appearances for the West London giants last season in all competitions.
The Portugal international was a decent performer in the final third based on his average of 3.3 shots, 0.5 key passes and 2.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the UEFA Champions League. He even distributed the ball relatively well in the opposition half after completing 79.5% of his attempted passes in European football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Atletico Madrid will run out in the summer of 2027. However, with Atletico willing to let him go, Barca have now got a good chance of recruiting him before the end of this month.
Is Felix A Good Choice For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Felix can create some space for himself to get a few strikes on on-target. He can be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. The Portuguese talent can even engineer a few promising chances for others around him in the final third. He remains a good dribbler with the ball as well.
Felix mainly functions as a centre-forward but can also play as a left-winger if needed. We can expect someone of his quality to enhance the quality of Barcelona boss Xavi’s attack.
At 23, Felix will only get better in the coming seasons which makes him an ideal choice for the Catalan club to consider during this summer transfer period. He already knows La Liga well by now and won’t take any time to settle into life at the Nou Camp if Xavi can find a way to bring him on board soon.
