In a recent report, Estadio Deportivo mentioned that Aston Villa see their first bid get rejected for Sevilla full-back Marcos Acuna this summer. It is believed that the Villans have seen their offer worth €5m plus another €2m in variables get declined by the Andalusian club.
Acuna’s Impressive Run Of Form In La Liga
Acuna enjoyed a decent campaign at the Spanish club recently after he produced a series of impressive displays on the left flank. The 31-year-old registered three goals and four assists in 45 matches for Sevilla last season across various competitions.
The Zapala-born talent has been a consistent performer in both halves based on his average of 1.9 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 1.1 clearances, 0.7 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in La Liga. Acuna has even been accurate with his ball distribution as he completed 80.6% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Andalusian club will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, the Villans would find it difficult to get him on board for a reduced fee this month.
What Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Do With Regards To Acuna?
Acuna is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.
The Argentine sensation is a decent dribbler with the ball and can make a few decent chances for his teammates from the left flank. He can shoot the ball with power from long range. However, it remains to be seen whether the Sevilla talent can make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football if the West Midlands club can find a way to lure him to Villa Park.
We can expect Acuna to bolster the quality of Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s starting XI. He could even help the Villans compete for a European spot in the Premier League this season.
At 31, Acuna has still got a few good years left in him to play at his best. Hence, Emery would be wise to go back in with another offer to sign the Sevilla star during this summer transfer period.
