In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Ryan Taylor mentioned that Aston Villa are eyeing a late move for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix this summer. Taylor said,
“He doesn’t really have any top suitors out there anymore as the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all moved on and PSG doesn’t really seem to be avenue,
“The only one that sort of stands out is Barcelona, but again I don’t know what their finances are truly like, so I’m not sure.
“There is going to come a stage where Jorge Mendes is probably going to look to try and get him a last-minute transfer and later in the window is an opportunity for someone to capitalise on, and Aston Villa are well-placed definitely.”
Felix’s Recent Loan Spell At Stamford Bridge
Felix had a decent loan spell at Chelsea last season when he managed to put in a few fruitful displays as the focal point of their attack. The Portuguese sensation netted four goals in 20 matches for the Blues in the previous campaign across multiple competitions.
The 23-year-old proved his worth as a decent performer in the final third by averaging 2.9 shots and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 80.9% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Snap Felix Up This Summer?
Felix is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He is a good finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball on the attacking end of the pitch.
We can expect someone with Felix’s quality to add more firepower to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery’s frontline. He might even help the Villans compete for a European spot in the Premier League next season.
At 23, Felix has got the potential to become a world-class striker someday. Therefore, he would be an excellent choice for the Villans this summer. All in all, Emery should focus on snapping Felix up before the end of this month.
