In a recent report, Estadio Deportivo claimed that Aston Villa are showing interest in Sevilla full-back Gonzalo Montiel this summer. It has been revealed that the Villans are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Argentine keeper in this off-season.
Montiel’s Impressive Season In La Liga
Montiel enjoyed a decent campaign at the Spanish club as he put in a handful of impressive displays on the right side of their backline. The 26-year-old registered one goal and three assists in 43 matches for the Andalusian club last season across all fronts.
The Argentine sensation has been a decent performer in both halves based on his average of 0.9 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 1.2 clearances and 0.7 key passes per game in La Liga. He has even been accurate with his ball distribution after making 80.8% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Sevilla will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, the Villans will have to make a big offer if they are serious about bringing Montiel to Villa Park this summer.
What Will Montiel Add To Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery’s Team?
Montiel loves a tackle and can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and can create the odd chance for his teammates from the right flank.
The Argentine talent is a technically gifted footballer who is an accurate passer of the ball as well. However, he might struggle to adapt to the physicality of English football if the Villans manage to bring him on board in this transfer window. Furthermore, the South American full-back needs to add a few goals to his game if he wants to succeed at the highest level.
Montiel will add more quality to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery‘s defence. He might even help the West Midlands club push for a top-half finish in Premier League football next season.
At 26, Montiel has his peak years in front of him which makes him a good choice for the Villans to consider before the start of the new campaign.
