Lenglet’s Decent Loan Spell At Tottenham Hotspur
Lenglet put in a series of impressive displays while on loan at Tottenham Hotspur last season. He made 35 appearances for the North London club in the previous campaign, scoring one goal and grabbing two assists across all fronts.
The French sensation proved himself to be a capable presence at the back based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing possession from inside his half after making 87.5% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at his parent club Barcelona will expire in 2026. Thus, it makes sense for Aston Villa to try and sign him on a season-long loan deal this summer.
Is Lenglet A Good Option For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?
Lenglet can get stuck in with a few solid tackles to make life tough for the opposition inside his half. He can sense the danger well and can make some timely interceptions for his team. The French talent usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot. He can even play his way out from the back.
We can expect Lenglet to bring more bite and steel to Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s defensive department. He is good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at Villa Park this season.
At 28, Lenglet is about to enter his prime which makes him a worthy target for the Villans to consider on loan during this summer transfer window. He will be a good option for the West Midlands club to sign on loan as he could help them challenge for a European spot in this 2023-24 Premier League campaign.
Lenglet already knows English football well by now from his previous loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Villa Park if Emery can get him on board before the end of this month.
