In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Ben Jacobs stated that Aston Villa are among the clubs hoping to land Leeds United ace Tyler Adams. Jacobs said,
“Although Aston Villa have looked, I think I would also be keeping an eye on Brighton, and West Ham are still looking for a midfielder following the departure of Declan Rice. Nottingham Forest have enquired about the player, but I’m not aware they’ve advanced it any further than that.”
Adams’ Up-And-Down Season In Premier League Football
Adams matured as a footballer during his time at Leeds United in the previous campaign when he produced some solid displays at the heart of their midfield. The 24-year-old featured in 26 matches for the Whites last season in all competitions.
Adams’ efforts were not enough to keep Leeds in the Premier League. However, the United States sensation did well to average 3.7 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.0 clearances and 1.0 key passes per game in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 82.4% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Is Adams A Decent Option For Aston Villa?
Adams is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his side at the centre of the park. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for his teammates from midfield.
The United States international is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a right-back or as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so.
Adams will bring more bite and steel to Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s midfield and help the Villans challenge for a top-half finish in the upcoming Premier League campaign. Hence, he would be a decent option for Aston Villa as long as they can get him on board for a fair price this summer.
At 24, Adams will only get better in the coming years and could even help the West Midlands club push for European football in the not-too-distant future. Thus, Emery should think about going all out to land him soon.
