In a recent report, The Daily Mail stated that West Ham United are set to launch a £20m bid for Southampton star James Ward-Prowse this summer. It has been mentioned that the Hammers have made a move to bring the English midfielder to the London Stadium ahead of the new campaign.
Ward-Prowse’s Difficult Season In Premier League Football
Ward-Prowse endured a tough season at the English club recently as he failed to save the Saints from being relegated. However, the 28-year-old performed well to score 11 goals and secure five assists in 45 matches for Southampton in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The English sensation was a decent performer in both halves based on his average of 1.7 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 1.2 shots and 1.9 key passes per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He even distributed the ball with conviction from midfield after completing 85.3% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Ward-Prowse is under contract at St. Mary’s Stadium until 2026. However, Southampton’s relegation could invite the Hammers to snap him up on a cut-price deal this summer.
What Will Ward-Prowse Add To West Ham United Boss David Moyes’ Side?
Ward-Prowse is a decent tackler of the ball and can make a few important interceptions for his side in the middle of the park. He usually clears his lines when needed and can strike the ball with venom and accuracy from long range.
The English talent is a natural leader who has got the vision to set up a few decisive plays for his teammates in the opponent’s half. He usually operates as a box-to-box midfielder but can also play in the number ten position or operate as a right-winger if asked to do so.
Ward-Prowse will enhance the quality of West Ham boss David Moyes’ first XI. He is good enough to make an instant impact at the London Stadium next season.
We can expect him to add more quality and depth to the East London club‘s midfield. Ward-Prowse might even help the Hammers challenge for European football once again in the upcoming campaign. With all things considered, Moyes would be wise to try everything he can to land the Southampton midfield ace this summer.
