In a recent report, The Telegraph revealed that West Ham United are eyeing a move for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer. It has been stated that the Hammers are showing interest in recruiting the Scottish midfield ace and would have to pay £45m to sign him.
McTominay’s Decent Run Of Form In Premier League Football
McTominay enjoyed a solid campaign at Old Trafford as he managed to put in a run of impressive displays for the Red Devils in the middle of the park. The Scotland international scored three goals and secured one assist in 39 matches for Man United last season across various competitions.
The Lancaster-born talent anchored the midfield well based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 82.9% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
McTominay’s current deal at Man United will run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, West Ham have no choice but to pay Man United’s £45m asking price if they want to recruit the Scottish midfield ace.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Move In For McTominay?
McTominay is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his side at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when required and is an accurate passer of the ball as well. McTominay mainly functions as a holding midfielder but can also play as a centre-back or as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so by his manager.
The Scottish talent can also use his robust 1.91m frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team. He knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take any time to settle into life at West Ham.
McTominay would serve as a good replacement for Declan Rice who left the Hammers to join Arsenal earlier this summer. We can expect the Man United sensation to add more bite and steel to David Moyes’ midfield. Hence, it makes sense for the East London club to move in for McTominay in this ongoing transfer window.
