In a recent report, The Independent mentioned that West Ham United could step up their pursuit of Manchester United ace Scott McTominay this summer. It is believed that the Hammers could set their sights on the Scottish midfield ace once they lose Declan Rice in this off-season.
McTominay’s Decent Campaign In Manchester Recently
McTominay enjoyed a successful season at Old Trafford recently as he served as a valuable presence in Erik ten Hag’s squad. The Scottish talent made 39 appearances for the Red Devils in the previous campaign, scoring three goals and grabbing one assist in various competitions.
The 26-year-old anchored the midfield well at times by averaging 1.3 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He even distributed the ball accurately going forward, based on his pass success rate of 82.9% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
McTominay is under contract at Man United until the summer of 2025. However, he is not a regular starter at the Mancunian club anymore which could open the door for the Hammers to sign him in this ongoing transfer window.
What Will McTominay Bring To Manchester United?
McTominay is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball to clear the danger when the opposition are on the offensive.
The Scottish talent is a good passer of the ball as well but needs to find a way to improve his productivity in the opponent’s half. He mainly plays as a defensive midfielder but can also act as a box-to-box midfielder or operate in central defence if needed.
We can expect McTominay to bring more bite and steel to West Ham boss David Moyes’ midfield. He would even serve as a good replacement for Declan Rice at the East London club this summer.
At 26, McTominay is about to enter his prime, so the Hammers can expect to get the best out of him in the coming seasons. All in all, Moyes should focus on trying everything in his power to lure the Scotland international to the London Stadium before the transfer window slams shut later this year.
