In a recent report, The Daily Mail mentioned that West Ham United are eyeing a move for Southampton ace James Ward-Prowse this summer. It has been stated that the Hammers are showing interest in recruiting the English talent in this off-season.
Ward-Prowse’s Difficult Season At Southampton
The 28-year-old had a tough campaign at the St. Mary’s Stadium recently after he struggled to help the Saints avoid suffering relegation from the Premier League. However, Ward-Prowse did well to score 11 goals and pick up five assists in 45 matches for the English outfit last season in all competitions.
The English sensation was a positive influence in the middle of the park as he is averaging 1.7 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 1.2 clearances, 1.2 shots and 1.9 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He even distributed the ball accurately from midfield as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 85.3% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Ward-Prowse’s current deal at the English club will run out in 2026. Hence, it won’t be easy for the Hammers to land him on the cheap this summer.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Move In For Ward-Prowse?
Ward-Prowse is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some important interceptions for his side at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.
The English talent can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the vision to engineer a few decent chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half.
We can expect Ward-Prowse to enhance the quality of West Ham boss David Moyes‘ midfield. He might even help the Hammers to compete for a European spot in the Premier League over the next few years. Therefore, it makes sense for the East London giants to move in for Ward-Prowse during this summer transfer period.
