In a recent report, De Telegraaf claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are close to recruiting VfL Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven this summer. It has been mentioned that Spurs have already reached an agreement with the Dutch centre-back over a potential move in this off-season.
Van De Ven’s Impressive Form In The Bundesliga Last Season
Van de Ven was a prominent feature at the heart of Wolfsburg’s defence last season when he put in a run of solid displays on the defensive end of the pitch. The 22-year-old scored one goal and secured a couple of assists in 36 matches for the German club in the previous campaign on all fronts.
The Wormer-born talent was a rock at the back for the German club by averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from inside his half after making 88.3% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club is set to run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, Spurs would have to make a sizable offer if they want to get van de Ven on board later this year.
Is Van de Ven A Decent Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Van de Ven is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to make a few timely interceptions for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is a decent passer of the ball as well from the back.
Standing at 1.93m, the Dutch talent can use his robust frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. He is primarily a central defender but can function as a left-back if asked to do so.
We can expect Van de Ven to add more bite and steel to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu‘s defence. He is good enough to help the North London club challenge for a top-six finish in the Premier League next season. Hence, van de Ven would be a great option for Spurs to pursue during this summer transfer window as long as they can get him for a fair price.
