Real Madrid Are Looking To Cash In On This Experienced Full-Back: Should Ancelotti Let Him Go?

In a recent report, AS mentioned that Real Madrid are looking to cash in Ferland Mendy this summer. It has been claimed that Los Blancos are willing to let the French defender leave before the end of this transfer window.

Mendy’s Good Form In Spanish Football Last Season

Mendy enjoyed a decent campaign at the Madrid club recently as he put in a run of impressive performances on the left side of Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. The 28-year-old failed to score a goal but picked up one assist in 28 appearances for Los Blancos last season across all competitions.

The 28-year-old was a good performer for Real Madrid at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.2 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 0.7 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has also been accurate when distributing the ball from the left flank based on his pass completion rate of 92.6% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

His current deal at the Spanish club will expire in the summer of 2025. Thus, there is no immediate need for Ancelotti to cash in on him in this off-season.

Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Let Mendy Go?

Mendy is a decent tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his side inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and can deliver a few decent crosses into the opponent’s penalty box.

The French talent is currently playing in his prime and has what it takes to be a regular starter at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the upcoming campaign.

However, Los Blancos could choose to cash in on Mendy if they can find a suitable replacement for him on the cheap before the end of this transfer window.

At 28, Mendy has his best years ahead of him, so Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti might be better off not letting him go this summer as he remains an important member of their match-day squad. He could still help the Madrid club challenge for some major trophies over the next few years if Ancelotti opts to retain his services beyond this summer.
