In a recent report, Foot Mercato stated that Newcastle United have stepped up their chase to sign Monaco defender Axel Disasi this summer. It has been claimed that the Magpies are going all out to land the French talent in this ongoing transfer window.
Disasi’s Good Run of Form In French Football
The 25-year-old experienced an impressive campaign at Monaco recently after he produced a run of solid performances at the heart of their backline. Disasi played in 49 matches for the French club last season, scoring six goals and picking up four assists across various competitions.
The talented defender was a decent performer when defending inside his half as he averaged 0.8 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 2.9 clearances per game in Ligue 1 football. He has even been tidy when interchanging possession with his teammates as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 83.8% in the French top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Disasi is under contract at Monaco until the summer of 2025 which would make it difficult for the Magpies to get him on board this year.
Will Disasi Be A Good Choice For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Disasi can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the pitch. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.
The French centre-half can also use his robust 1.90m to win a few aerial duels and is proficient at playing his way out from the back. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to make a smooth transition to life in English football.
Disasi will inject more bite and steel into Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe’s defence. He might even help the Magpies compete across all fronts in the coming years. Hence, he would be a decent choice for the Tyneside club this summer.
At 25, Disasi will enter his prime soon and could prove himself to be a success story at St. James’ Park in the long run. All in all, Howe should focus on getting a deal done for the Frenchman ahead of the new season.
