According to a report from Mirror, Liverpool have keen interest in securing the services of Rennes winger Jeremy Doku. The 21-year-old Belgium international impressed with his performance last season, and he still has two years left on his current contract.
While Liverpool’s priorities lie in strengthening other areas of their squad, they might consider making a move for Doku if the right price presents itself. However, they face competition from Napoli, AC Milan, and Aston Villa, all of whom are also contemplating bids for the talented winger. Doku prefers a move to the Premier League; meanwhile, Rennes have reportedly set a €40 million (£34.4 million) price tag on the player.
Doku’s Impressive Run Form In Ligue 1 Last Season
The Belgium talent has enjoyed a decent season at the French club after he put in a few impressive displays for them in the final third. Doku scored seven goals and earned four assists in 33 matches for Rennes in the previous campaign in all competitions.
The 21-year-old has caught the eye in the opposition half by averaging 0.9 shots, 1.0 key passes and 3.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1 football. He has even distributed the ball accurately after making 86.4% of his attempted passes in the top tier of French football (stats via whoscored).
Should Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Snap Him Up?
Doku showcases excellent dribbling skills and possesses the vision to unlock opponents’ defences with precise passes from wide areas. Moreover, his ability to unleash powerful and accurate long-distance shots adds to his attacking prowess. However, to sustain success at the highest level, he must work on becoming more prolific in front of the goal. Although primarily a right-winger, he remains adaptable enough to play on either flank, providing versatility in the wide positions.
If Liverpool were to secure Doku’s services, he is expected to bolster Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options, offering an additional dimension to their offensive strategy. Becoming a sporadic member of the squad, he would provide valuable depth to the Merseyside club’s attack.
The decision of whether to pursue Doku ultimately lies with Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool’s management, who must carefully consider the financial implications. With a reported price tag of nearly £35 million, negotiating a lower transfer fee with Rennes could make Doku a smart and valuable acquisition for the Reds.
