According to a report from Mirror, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has faced a difficult period during his time at Chelsea last season. Now, it appears that he is on the verge of becoming the next big-name player to depart from Stamford Bridge. Aubameyang’s nightmare spell at Chelsea is coming to a close, as the forward has reportedly reached an agreement to move to Ligue 1 side Marseille.
Aubameyang’s Struggling Campaign With Chelsea Last Season
Aubameyang has struggled to be prolific at Chelsea during this campaign and has failed to establish himself as a regular starter at Stamford Bridge. The veteran forward has registered only three goals and two assists over 17 appearances for the Blues this season across all fronts.
The Gabon talent has seen most of his appearances come as a substitute which could be why he is only averaging 1.1 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.2 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has struggled to be accurate with his ball distribution after making 75% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Aubameyang’s contract at Stamford Bridge is set to run until the summer of 2024. Nonetheless, due to his decline in the pecking order, it is only natural that the West London club sell him this summer.

Aubameyang, an experienced forward, can still demonstrate his prowess as a decent finisher when provided with regular playtime and confidence on the field. Moreover, he possesses the ability to create promising opportunities for his teammates in and around the opponent’s penalty box. Nevertheless, his game has experienced a decline in pace, leading to a dip in form.
Despite this, Aubameyang remains a versatile attacker, capable of contributing from various positions across the frontline. However, with his services no longer required at West London, the most viable option for the Gabonese forward would be to seek consistent playing opportunities elsewhere. At the age of 33, the opportunity presented by Marseille could be a favourable choice for him. Hence, Pochettino has done well to allow him to leave this summer.
