In a recent report, Ghana Soccer Net claimed that Aston Villa have seen their initial bid turned down for Rennes winger Jeremy Doku this summer. It has been revealed that the Villans made an initial offer of around €25m for the Belgian speedster which was turned down by the French club.
Doku’s Decent Numbers In French Football
The 21-year-old had a good campaign at Rennes recently as he produced a handful of impressive performances for them on the right wing. Doku managed to score seven times and earn four assists in 35 matches for the French outfit last season in various competitions.
The Belgian prospect proved himself to be a valuable contributor in the opponent’s half and did well to average 0.9 shots, 1.0 key passes and 3.3 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He was even careful when distributing the ball in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 86.4% in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
Doku’s current deal at Rennes will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, the Villans would have to launch a convincing offer and meet the French club’s demands if they want to get the youngster on board in this ongoing transfer window.
What Should Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Do With Regards To Doku?
Doku is a decent dribbler with the ball and can be quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty box. He has got the pace to cause a lot of trouble for his marker out on the flanks. The Belgian whizkid deserves credit for adding some goals and assists to his game last season. He mainly operates on the right flank but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if required.
At 21, Doku has got the potential to become a future star in European football. Therefore, Aston Villa boss Unai Emery should focus on going all out to get a deal done for him this summer.
Doku is already good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at Villa Park next season. He might even help the Villans push for European football in the coming seasons. Thus, Emery would be wise to make an improved offer for him soon.
