In a recent report, Sport stated that Aston Villa are hoping to land Barcelona winger Ferran Torres this summer. It has been claimed that the Villans are eyeing a move to sign the Spanish talent in this ongoing transfer window.
Torres’ Impressive Numbers In Spanish Football
Torres enjoyed a decent campaign at the Nou Camp recently as he helped Barca win the La Liga title. The Spanish sensation registered seven goals and three assists in 45 matches for the Catalan outfit last season across all competitions.
The 23-year-old has been a consistent performer in the final third based on his average of 1.2 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He even distributed the ball relatively well after making 81.2% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Catalan club will expire in 2027. Hence, the Villans will have to make a convincing offer if they want to recruit Torres this summer.
Is Torres A Good Choice For Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery?
Torres can create a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has got the vision to unlock the opposition defence with a killer pass in the final third.
The Spanish talent can even make a few lively runs with the ball in the opponent’s half. He mainly plays as a left-winger but can also fill in as a right-sided wide player or as a centre-forward if told to do so.
Torres is good enough to enhance the quality of Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s attacking department. He already knows the Premier League well from his time at Man City and won’t have any trouble settling into life in English football if the Villans manage to get him on board in this off-season.
At 23, Torres will only get better with each year which makes him a great choice for the West Midlands club to consider during this summer transfer period. He might even help the Villans challenge for a top-half finish in the Premier League next season. Thus, Emery should prioritize on getting a deal done for him ahead of the new campaign.
