In a recent report, Türkiye Gazetesi revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have made a move to land Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson. It has been claimed that Spurs have launched a €19m move excluding bonuses to sign the Danish centre-half this summer.
Nelsson’s Decent Form In Turkish Football This Season
Nelsson managed to put in a series of solid performances at the heart of Galatasaray’s backline. The 24-year-old has registered one goal and one assist in 35 matches for the Turkish club this season across all competitions.
The Danish sensation has been a rock at the back based on his average of 0.8 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 3.3 clearances per 90 minutes in the Turkish Super Lig. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from inside his half after making 85.7% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Turkish football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Turkish outfit will expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for Spurs to get him on board ahead of the new campaign.
Is Nelsson A Decent Fit For Tottenham Hotspur?
Nelsson is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to make a few timely interceptions for his team. He can sense the danger quickly and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. Nelsson mainly functions as a central defender but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so.
The Danish talent excels at playing his way out from the back which makes him a good fit for Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglou‘s brand of football. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to cope with the physical side and high intensity of English football.
Still, we can expect Nelsson to bring more bite and steel to Spurs‘ backline. He might even help the North London club make a top-four push in the Premier League next season. At 24, the Danish talent has his best years ahead of him, so Postecoglou would be wise to try everything he can to lure him to the English capital when the transfer window reopens later this month.
