In a recent report, Milliyet stated that Tottenham Hotspur are in talks to recruit Galatasaray playmaker Nicolo Zaniolo. It has been claimed that Spurs are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Italian sensation this summer.
Zaniolo’s Decent Run Of Form In The Turkish Super Lig
Zaniolo managed to prove his worth as a good performer for Galatasaray in the final third last season. The Italian talent scored seven goals and earned four assists in 28 matches for the Turkish outfit in the previous campaign across all competitions.
The 23-year-old deserves some credit for averaging 2.2 shots and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Turkish Super Lig. However, he needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution in the opponent’s half after completing only 73.7% of his attempted passes in the Turkish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Turkish outfit will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Spurs will have to pay a big fee if they want to recruit the Italian talent in this off-season.
Is Zaniolo A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Zaniolo is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He has added a few goals and assists to his game but needs to find a way to be more ruthless in front of the opposition goal.
The Italian talent is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so. However, he has still got a lot of room to grow as a footballer.
Zaniolo will add more firepower to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu‘s attacking department. He is good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at the North London club and could help them compete for a top-four spot in the Premier League next season.
At 23, the Italian playmaker has his best years ahead of him which makes him an ideal choice for Spurs to consider during this summer transfer period. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in English football if Postecoglu manage to get a deal done for him ahead of the new campaign.
