In a recent report, A Bola mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are eager to sign FC Porto winger Pepe. It has been stated that Spurs are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the Brazilian wide player but are unwilling to meet his £64m release clause this summer.
Pepe’s Decent Run Of Form In Portuguese Football
Pepe enjoyed an impressive season with Porto as he managed to catch the eye at times with his performances for them in the final third. The Brazilian sensation banged in five goals and grabbed ten assists in 55 matches for the Portuguese club in the previous campaign across all competitions.
The 26-year-old has been a positive influence at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.2 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 1.0 shots, 1.1 key passes and 2.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution after completing 78% of his attempted passes in the Portuguese top tier (stats via whoscored).
Pepe is under contract at the Portuguese club until the summer of 2027. Hence, Tottenham will have to launch a big offer if they are serious about recruiting the Brazilian talent in this off-season.
What Will Pepe Bring To Tottenham Hotspur?
Pepe usually works hard for his side defensively and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. He has got the eye to unlock the opponent’s defence with some decisive passes in the final third and can strike the ball purely from long range.
The Brazilian sensation is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function as a right-winger or as a right-back if needed. At 26, he is entering his prime, so Spurs have every reason to be optimistic about getting the best out of the player if he can make a smooth transition to life in England.
We can expect Pepe to bring more goals and creativity to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglou’s frontline. He will offer some serious competition for Heung-min Son at the North London club. Furthermore, the Brazilian wing wizard could help Spurs challenge for a top-four spot in the Premier League and maybe even challenge for a trophy next season.
