In a recent report, The Daily Mail mentioned that Real Madrid have set their sights on Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku who is on loan at Inter Milan. It is believed that Los Blancos have identified the Belgian striker as a target for the upcoming transfer window.
Lukaku’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Lukaku is having a bright campaign on loan at Inter where he has managed to find some form over the past ten months. The 30-year-old has found the back of the net on 14 occasions and earned seven assists in 36 matches for the Italian club this season in various competitions.
The Belgium international has proven his worth as a decent forward by averaging 2.0 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.6 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play up top, based on his pass success rate of 72.5% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Lukaku’s current contract at his parent club Chelsea will run out in 2026. Hence, Real Madrid will have to make a good offer if they are serious about recruiting him this summer.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Move In For Lukaku?
Lukaku is proficient at finding space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He can be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. The Belgian talent can use his powerful 1.91m frame to dominate the opposition defenders in the air. However, he has to find a way to improve his link-up play up top.
Real Madrid are in dire need to recruit a new centre-forward following the announcement of Karim Benzema’s exit this summer. Lukaku would be a good, short-term replacement for the French striker at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
We can expect the Belgian centre-forward to bring more physicality and goals to Carlo Ancelotti‘s frontline. The former Manchester United powerhouse might even help Los Blancos challenge for some major honours over the next few years if he can make a smooth transition to life in the Spanish capital.
