In a recent report, La Gazzetta dello Sport revealed that Real Madrid are locked in a three-way battle for Fenerbahce prospect Arda Guler this summer. It has been mentioned that Los Blancos will have to rival Barcelona and AC Milan in the race to recruit the Turkish playmaker during this summer transfer window.
Guler’s Recent Rise In Turkish Football
Guler enjoyed a decent season at the Turkish club recently after putting in several impressive displays for them on the attacking end of the pitch. The 18-year-old banged in six goals and grabbed seven assists in 35 matches for Fenerbahce in the previous campaign across all fronts.
The Turkish club was a reliable performer in the final third as he averaged 1.7 shots, 2.0 key passes and 2.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Turkish Super Lig. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 85% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Fenerbahce is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Therefore, it won’t be easy for Los Blancos to win the race for Guler’s services in this off-season.
Real Madrid Locked In A Three-Way Battle For Guler: Is He Worth The Fight?
Guler can engineer a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for others around him in the final third.
The Turkish starlet is a decent dribbler with the ball as well in the opponent’s half. Guler is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder or as a right-winger if asked to do so. However, he would need time to settle into life in Spain.
We can expect Guler to be a success story at a top club like Real Madrid in the long run. However, Carlo Ancelotti has to be patient with his progress if he wants to get the best out of the youngster in the Spanish capital.
All in all, Guler is definitely well worth the fight as he has the potential to become a generational talent at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the future.
