In a recent report, Defensa Central stated that Real Madrid have identified Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino this summer. It has been claimed that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to bring the Brazil international to the Spanish capital during this transfer window.
Firmino’s Impressive Numbers At Merseyside Last Season
Firmino enjoyed a decent campaign at the Merseyside club after putting in a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Brazilian struggled to earn a regular starting spot at Anfield last season but did well to score 13 goals and secure five assists in 35 matches for the Reds across all fronts.
The 31-year-old made a lot of his appearances off the bench which explains why he only averaged 1.6 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 79.9% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Liverpool will run out at the end of this month which could open the door for Real Madrid to sign him in this off-season.
Is Firmino A Decent Choice For Real Madrid?
Firmino is a technically gifted footballer who can retain possession in tight spaces inside the opponent’s half. He can be a decent finisher in front of the opposition goal when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. Firmino is primarily a centre-forward but can also play in the number ten position if asked to do so.
The Brazilian forward can also make a few driving runs with the ball on the attacking end of the field. However, Firmino has to find a way to earn more playing opportunities if he wants to make the most out of the rest of his playing career.
We can expect the Brazilian attacker to serve as an ideal replacement for Karim Benzema at the Madrid club. He would even increase competition for places within Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti‘s match-day squad.
At 31, Firmino has still got a few good years left in him and could help Los Blancos challenge for some major honours over the next few seasons.
