In a recent report, Calciomercatoweb revealed that Real Madrid have set their sights on Bayer 04 Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie. It has been claimed that Los Blancos are eyeing a move to bring the Ecuadorian talent in this off-season.
Hincapie’s Impressive Form In German Football Last Season
Hincapie produced a series of impressive displays at the centre of Leverkusen’s defence last season and did well to score one goal and secure one assist in 43 appearances for the German club in all competitions.
The 21-year-old was a consistent performer in both halves based on his average of 1.7 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 2.5 clearances per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from the back after completing 83.2% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club is set to run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, it won’t be easy for Real Madrid to get him on board ahead of the new campaign.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Move In For Hincapie?
Hincapie is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is a decent passer of the ball as well.
Hincapie mainly functions as a central defender but can also fill in as a left-back if asked to do so. The Ecuadorian talent is only going to get better with each season, so Real Madrid will do well to lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium this summer.
We can expect Hincapie to bring more bite and steel to Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. He might even help Los Blancos challenge for some major trophies over the next decade. Thus, it makes a lot of sense for the Madrid giants to move in for the Ecuadorian youngster during this summer transfer period. However, it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Spanish capital.
At 21, the future is quite bright for Hincapie, so Ancelotti has every reason to be confident about unlocking the best out of him over the next few years.
