After a disappointing 2022-23 campaign, Rangers are determined to bounce back under the tutelage of Michael Beale. The English boss has hinted at a squad overhaul ahead of the upcoming term and the outcast Gers midfielder Glen Kamara has opened up on his future while speaking on the Finnish podcast Pallokerho.
“For Glen, everything is open really. He is either going to be here for a considerable future or we will probably sell him this summer. I think he needs to look at the competition that’s here in pre-season and decide whether there is going to be enough football for him.”
Beale revealed earlier while speaking on the Fin’s future at Ibrox. But his comments have not surprised the 27-year-old midfield ace who had similar conversations with the gaffer a few months ago.
Kamara had a failed youth stint at Arsenal. However, he revived his game since plying his trade at Dundee and the Light Blues secured his services for a minuscule £50,000 back in January 2019. He was instrumental to their league triumph under Steven Gerrard as the former Gers chief mostly deployed him as a ‘number 8’ during his tenure.
Meanwhile, the arrival of Giovanni van Bronckhorst saw a tweak in formation. Neither a ‘double pivot’ nor the ‘number 10’ role suited his game and the player, therefore, lost his starting status midway through the previous season. Beale’s appointment did not help him either as he started only once in the past three months.
Why Rangers Should Part Ways With Kamara
Rangers have already bolstered themselves in the middle of the park by roping in Kieran Dowell from Norwich City on a Bosman transfer. They are also closing in on Jose Cifuentes to add more depth as well as quality in central midfield alongside Ryan Jack, John Lundstram and Nicolas Raskin. Kamara could find himself way down the pecking order and the Gers, too, should aim for a financial boost from his sale after slapping a price tag of around £5m.
