In a recent blog with Betway, former Premier League forward Louis Saha urged Newcastle United to land Bayern Munich ace Sadio Mane. Saha said,
“Newcastle United need world-class players now, despite their amazing season, but they need players who have won titles and know how to win trophies.
“That’s the club’s next step, and players like Sadio Mané can definitely help and provide inspiration to the team to take them to the next level. It’s necessary to have players of Mané’s calibre to help them get through competitions.”
Mane’s Campaign Of Mixed Emotions In German Football
The 31-year-old had an up-and-down campaign at the Bavarian club as he has struggled to be consistent with his offensive numbers. Mane found the back of the net on 12 occasions and earned six assists in 38 appearances for Bayern last season in multiple competitions.
The Senegal international deserves some credit for averaging 2.2 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He even distributed possession relatively well in the final third based on his pass success rate of 76.4% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Move In For Mane?
Mane remains a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make some dangerous runs with the ball in the final third. He can create the odd chance for his teammates and can shoot the ball with power from long range.
However, the Senegalese talent needs to work on improving his finishing if he wants to remain a prominent feature at the highest level.
Someone with Mane’s skillset and winning mindset will be a massive signing for the Magpies if they can devise a way to bring him on board this summer. He will add more firepower to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s attack.
At 31, Mane has still got a few good years left in him and would be a good, short-term option for the Tyneside club to consider during this summer transfer period. He already knows the Premier League well from his time at Southampton and Liverpool, and won’t take much time to settle into life at St. James’ Park. Therefore, Howe should focus on moving in for Mane ahead of the new season.
