In a recent report, Fichajes revealed that Newcastle United are keeping a keen eye on Barcelona ace Ferran Torres. It has been stated that the Magpies are showing interest in bringing the Spanish playmaker to Tyneside this summer.
Torres’ Up-And-Down Season At The Nou Camp
Torres experienced a season of mixed emotions as he struggled to be consistent for Barca in the final third but managed to secure the La Liga title with them earlier this summer. The Spanish sensation registered seven goals and three assists in 45 matches for the Catalan club in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The 23-year-old made most of his appearances off the bench but did well to average 1.2 shots, 0.8 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after completing 81.2% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Barca runs out in 2027. However, the Catalan club’s recent financial struggles could give Newcastle a chance to secure Torres’ services this summer.
Is Torres A Decent Fit For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?
Torres is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can engineer a few meaningful openings for his teammates in the final third. He can strike the ball with power from all ranges and can be a streaky scorer in front of the opponent’s goal.
The Spanish talent mainly functions as a left-sided wide player but can also operate as a right-sided wide player or play as a centre-forward if required.
Torres would no doubt add more firepower to Newcastle United‘s frontline. He is good enough to rival Allan Saint-Maximin and Alexander Isak for a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park next season.
Torres already knows the Premier League well from his time at Man City and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Tyneside club. At 23, he will only improve his all-around game with each season.
The Spanish talent is a technically gifted and versatile footballer who would be a decent fit for Howe’s brand of football at Newcastle.
