In a recent report, The Shields Gazette mentioned that Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Chelsea midfield ace Conor Gallagher this summer. It has been claimed that the Magpies would only move in for the English talent if the Blues make him available for a fee below £30m.
Gallagher’s Difficult Season In West London Recently
Gallagher had a tough campaign at Stamford Bridge recently as he failed to find consistency with his performances at the centre of Chelsea’s midfield. The English playmaker could only manage to find the back of the net three times and earn one assist in 45 matches for the Blues last season in various competitions.
The 23-year-old made almost half of his appearances off the bench which could be why he only averaged 0.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He was at least tidy when interchanging possession with his teammates in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 84.5% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal with the Blues will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, the Magpies will struggle to sign Gallagher on the cheap in this ongoing transfer window.
Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Snap Gallagher Up This Summer?
Gallagher can engineer space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. The English sensation is full of energy and running in the middle of the park and can create some decent plays for his teammates when he is playing with confidence on the pitch.
Gallagher mainly functions as a box-to-box midfielder but can also play as a defensive midfielder or as an attacking midfielder if required.
The Chelsea talent will add more energy and dynamism to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe‘s midfield. He might even help the Magpies compete across all fronts in the coming seasons.
At 23, the future still looks quite promising for Gallagher. Therefore, the Tyneside club should focus on snapping him up before the end of this summer transfer period. He already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take any time adjusting to life at St. James’ Park next season.
