According to a recent report from Liverpool Echo, Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur has reported that Manchester United have entered the competition to secure the services of Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.
In preparation for the upcoming Premier League season, the Red Devils are actively seeking a midfielder. While their initial attempts to sign Mason Mount have been rejected three times, they remain determined to reinforce their midfield options.
Barella’s Impressive Campaign With Inter Milan
Based on his Whoscored stats, Barella has made 32 appearances in the Serie A this season, scoring five goals and providing six assists. He has also played a significant role in Inter Milan’s impressive Champions League campaign, making nine appearances in the competition, with three goals to his name.
The 26-year-old’s work rate is also a key feature of his game, with an average of 1.3 tackles, 1.0 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in Serie A. He is also adept at distributing the ball after completing 84.9% of his attempted passes in the Italian top flight.
Should Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag Bring Him Aboard?
Barella remains an all-round midfielder, equally adept at breaking up play and driving forward with some dangerous runs down the middle. He is a tenacious tackler of the ball and can make some crucial interceptions to win back possession for his side.
The Italian midfielder has exceptional ball control that allows him to move through tight spaces and a keen eye for making decisive passes that can open up opposition defences to contribute to his team’s attacking play.
Barella’s performances this season have attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs, with the Reds reportedly keen on securing his services. His style of play would undoubtedly be an asset to any team.
With the Red Devils’ third bid for Mason Mount being rejected, it only makes sense for them to pursue other alternatives in the market, and a player of Barella’s calibre would make an excellent addition to Erik ten Hag’s squad at Old Trafford. Hence the Mancunian giants have done well to target him this summer even though they face competition from Liverpool in the race to acquire Barella’s services.
