According to a report from Mirror, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is actively searching for a new striker to bolster his squad. However, despite the speculation, it appears that Tottenham superstar Harry Kane will not be making a move to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.
Kane’s Impressive Form In English Football
Kane has had an impressive season in English football, despite Tottenham’s failure to secure a top-four position in the Premier League. He has been consistent in his attacking contributions, scoring 30 goals and providing five assists in 48 appearances for the North London club across all competitions.
The English striker has shown his attacking prowess in front of goal, averaging 3.4 shots, 1.5 key passes, and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, his passing accuracy in the final third has been a weak point, with a completion rate of just 71.9% in league matches (stats via whoscored).
Kane’s current contract with Tottenham is set to expire in the summer of 2024. Nevertheless, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is known for his tough negotiating stance and is unlikely to sell Kane, especially considering he turns 30 next month, without a significant transfer fee. Man United are keen on finalising their signings early in the transfer window, as they faced difficulties last summer in their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
Good Call From Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag?
The Red Devils are in need of a new striker following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Old Trafford in November. Although Erik ten Hag temporarily secured Wout Weghorst on loan in January, the Dutch international has returned to his parent club, Burnley, and will not be rejoining United.
Kane would have been the perfect addition to the squad as he can find pockets of space to create goal-scoring opportunities for himself. He is a clinical finisher and possesses the skill to generate promising chances for his teammates in the attacking third.
While the English striker showcases intelligence in his attacking runs, there is room for improvement in his partnership play. But considering his attacking prowess, he would have been a great fit for ten Hag’s style of play at Old Trafford.
However, Levy’s stance on the English striker has forced Ten Hag to look elsewhere. Nevertheless, there are plenty of other options to consider in the summer transfer window, but the former Ajax boss would have to make a move as early as he can.
