In a recent print edition, La Gazzetta Dello Sport claimed that Manchester United are ready to make a move for Napoli star Victor Osimhen this summer. It has been revealed that the Red Devils are planning to move in for the Nigeria international in this off-season.
Osimhen’s Impressive Run Of Form In Serie A Last Season
Osimhen enjoyed a brilliant campaign at the Naples club after he produced a run of productive displays as the spearhead of their attack. The Nigerian speedster banged in 31 goals and grabbed five assists in 39 matches for the Italian club last season on all fronts.
The 24-year-old has been a reliable performer in the final third based on his average of 4.2 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he lacks quality when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half as he completed 71% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, Man United will have to make a big offer if they are serious about recruiting the Napoli centre-forward ahead of the new campaign.
Is Osimhen A Good Option For Manchester United Boss Erik ten Hag?
Osimhen is proficient at finding space for himself to get a few strikes in on-target. He has established himself as a prolific goal-scorer in Italian football and has also done well to contribute by picking up his fair share of assists in the final third.
The Nigerian talent is a decent dribbler with the ball as well but needs to work on improving his passing accuracy if he wants to be a success story at a top club like Man United.
We can expect Osimhen to add plenty of firepower to Erik ten Hag‘s attack. He would serve as an upgrade over Wout Weghorst and Anthony Martial at Old Trafford next season.
At 24, Osimhen has his peak years ahead of him which makes him an excellent option for the Red Devils to consider during this summer transfer period. However, it remains to be seen whether the Napoli ace can make a smooth transition to life in English football.
