In a recent segment on Youtube, BILD journalist Christian Falk revealed that Liverpool have identified Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone as a target. It has been mentioned that the Reds are eyeing a move to land the French talent during this summer transfer period.
Kone’s Impressive Form In Bundesliga This Season
Kone has enjoyed a decent campaign in the Bundesliga after putting in a string of impressive displays at the centre of Monchengladbach’s midfield. The French sensation has scored one goal and secured one assist in 31 appearances for the German club this season across all competitions.
The 22-year-old has been a decent performer at the centre of the park and had done well to average 2.5 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 0.9 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from midfield after completing 87.3% of his attempted passes in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, it won’t be easy for Liverpool to land him on the cheap in this off-season.
What Will Kone Add To Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp’s Side?
Kone is a good tackler of the ball and can make a few timely interceptions for his team at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well.
The French talent is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if asked to do so. However, it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of English football if Liverpool manage to land him this summer.
We can expect Kone to add more bite and steel to Jurgen Klopp‘s midfield department at Anfield. He might even help the Reds clinch a top-four spot in the 2023-24 Premier League campaign.
At 22, the future looks quite bright for Kone as long as he continues to improve his game with each season. Therefore, the Merseyside club should focus on getting a deal done for him when the transfer window commences later this year.
