According to a report from The Sun, Galatasaray is actively pursuing multiple players from Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea as they plan their summer transfers. One of their primary targets is reported to be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whom they aim to lure to Turkey.
Aubameyang’s Challenging Season At Chelsea
Aubameyang has faced difficulties finding his rhythm at Stamford Bridge this season, resulting in a lack of consistent playing time as a regular starter. The experienced forward has recorded a modest tally of three goals and two assists in 21 appearances for the Blues across all competitions.
With most of his appearances coming off the bench, Aubameyang’s statistical output has been affected, averaging 1.1 shots, 0.3 key passes, and 0.2 dribbles per game in the Premier League. His passing accuracy has also suffered, completing 75% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Aubameyang’s contract with Chelsea is set to run until the summer of 2024. However, due to his diminished role and decreased prominence within the team, there is a possibility that the West London club might consider selling him during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Should Pochettino Sanction Aubameyang’s Exit This Summer?
Aubameyang is an experienced forward who can still be a decent finisher in front of the opposition goal when he plays regularly and confidently on the pitch. He can also create decent openings for others around him in and around the opponent’s penalty box. However, he has lost a lot of pace from his game and is currently seeing a dip in form.
Still, Aubamayang remains a versatile forward, as he can operate anywhere across the frontline. He had a decent goal-scoring record during his last spell at the Nou Camp, where he scored 13 goals and grabbed one assist in 24 matches for Barcelona across all competitions. So any club could make use of his services if he’s given enough chances in the final third.
Even at the age of 33, we can expect Aubameyang to bring some depth to the attacking department as he would provide more options on the attacking end of the pitch. However, he only has a few years left to offer at a high level, so selling him this summer could be a viable option for the Blues.
The Turkish club recognizes Aubameyang’s exceptional talents and views him as a key addition to their squad. Securing his signature would be a significant coup for Galatasaray as they seek to strengthen their team for the upcoming season.
