In a recent report, O Jogo stated that Everton have seen their first bid get rejected for Coventry City forward Viktor Gyokeres this summer. It has been claimed that the Toffees are hoping to secure the services of the Swedish talent in this off-season.
Gyokeres’ Impressive Run Of Form In The Championship Last Season
Gyokeres enjoyed a decent campaign at Coventry City as he put in a series of impressive performances for them in the final third. The Swedish striker banged in 22 goals and earned 12 assists in 50 appearances for the Sky Blues last season in multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old caught the eye with his performances for his current club up top and did well to average 2.9 shots, 1.9 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the English Championship. However, he has been sloppy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass completion rate of 68.6% in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Coventry will end next summer which could open the door for the Toffees to sign him on a cut-price deal this summer.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Go Back In For Gyokeres?
Gyokeres can orchestrate a yard of space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. He proved his worth as a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s half last season. Gyokeres mainly operates as a striker but can also play as a winger on either flank if asked to do so.
The Swedish forward can even create the odd chance in the final third and can also complete some dangerous dribbles up top. However, he is yet to prove his value in top-flight football and could struggle to maintain his good form in the Premier League if the Toffees manage to get him on board this summer.
Still, there is no denying that Gyokeres will add more goals to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s attack. He has what it takes to offer some healthy competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the Merseyside club next season.
At 25, Gyokeres has got a bright future ahead of him, so the Toffees should focus on going back in with another bid to secure his services before the end of this summer transfer window.
