In a recent print edition, A Bola mentioned that Everton have launched an offer for Coventry City forward Viktor Gyökeres. It has been stated that the Toffees have tabled a bid to sign the Swedish talent in this off-season.
Gyokeres’ Impressive Record At Coventry This Season
Gyokeres has enjoyed a stellar campaign at Coventry which ended in disappointment as the Sky Blues narrowly missed out on promotion from the EFL Championship. The 25-year-old scored 22 times and grabbed 12 assists in 50 matches for the West Midlands club last season across all competitions.
The Swedish talent caught the eye in the final third by averaging 2.9 shots, 1.9 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per game in the English Championship. However, he needs to work on improving his ball distribution after completing only 68.6% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Coventry City will run out in the summer of 2024 which could make it easy for the Toffees to sign him on the cheap before the start of the new campaign.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Snap Gyokeres Up This Summer?
Gyokeres excels at finding space for himself to get some strikes in on-target. He can be a decent finisher in the final third and has got the potential to unlock the opponent’s defence with a few decisive passes up top. Gyokeres is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a wide player on either flank if asked to do so by his manager.
The Swedish talent is a decent dribbler with the ball as well but needs to work on improving his link-up play on the attacking end of the field. Furthermore, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in top-flight football.
Gyokeres will add more firepower to Everton boss Sean Dyche’s frontline. He might even help the Toffees compete for a top-half finish in the Premier League next season. All in all, the Merseyside club would be wise to snap Gyokeres up during this summer transfer window as he would offer some serious competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Goodison Park in the coming seasons.
