In a recent print edition, Gazzetta dello Sport revealed that Everton are in talks to recruit Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa. It has been mentioned that the Toffees are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the Argentine attacker this summer.
Correa’s Lack Of Consistency In Italian Football
Correa experienced an inconsistent campaign at San Siro as he struggled to be productive with his performances for Inter in the final third. The Argentine sensation managed to score four goals and secure three assists in 41 matches for the Italian club last season across multiple competitions.
The 28-year-old made most of his appearances off the bench which explains why he only averaged 0.8 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in Serie A. However, he has been accurate when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass success rate of 80.4% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club is set to run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, the Merseyside club will have to make a sizable offer if they want to sign the Argentine forward in this off-season.
What Will Correa Add To Everton Boss Sean Dyche’s Side?
Correa excels at engineering space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can be a good finisher in the final third when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. The Argentine talent has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for others around him in the opponent’s half.
Correa is a decent dribbler with the ball as well but is in dire need to secure regular playing opportunities if he wants to taste more success at the highest level. The Inter ace is primarily a centre-forward but can also function as a left-sided wide player if needed.
We can expect Correa to enhance the quality of Everton boss Sean Dyche’s frontline. He might even help the Toffees challenge for a top-half finish in the 2023-23 Premier League season as long as he can make a smooth transition to life at the Merseyside club.
At 28, the best is yet to come from Correa. We can expect him to add more quality to Everton’s first XI, so Dyche should focus on getting a deal done for him this summer.
